This includes scheduling workers, ordering feed and transporting animals, to maintaining the facilities, ensuring the animals are well cared for and that studies are carried out properly.

“Our farm is a working farm, with 120 Angus-cross cows on 15 pastures, two confined feeding facilities and one 120 head feedlot. We have a strong focus on animal husbandry and animal welfare,” says Maupin.

Maupin’s expertise and interest includes:

  • Animal husbandry.
  • Production practices associated with cow/calf, growing and finishing cattle.
  • Determining ways to collect research data that is accurate, efficient and satisfies the needs of the researchers and animals.

“The accomplishment that I’m most proud of is helping with the development and building of the beef innovation center. Providing input on ways to make our operation more accurate and more efficient and then seeing those changes come to life is very rewarding,” says Maupin.

A Missouri native, Maupin grew up in Lonedell on a small cattle farm and has been with Purina for more than 24 years. Involved in animal agriculture his entire life, Maupin and his family raise club calves and are involved in local 4-H clubs and youth groups.
