Background

Dr. Williamson supports all veterinary functions on the farm and is the key advisor to the horse group on veterinary relations and medical issues.

She’s been involved with horses since the age of 2, and has studied and competed in dressage and combined training for more than 30 years. “I always knew I was born to work with animals, that it would be my life’s work,” said Dr. Williamson.

“What it takes to develop a nutrition program is a lot of formulations and iterations, trial and error and collaboration. We’re involved in a variety of horse communities, and each of us brings a unique set of experiences to troubleshoot ideas and develop products that are useful and necessary. Purina® WellSolve® horse feed is a great example of a formula for horses with special dietary needs. It didn’t come fast—it took nearly six years to perfect—but when it came, it filled a very real need for horses with metabolism issues and special needs.”

Dr. Williamson earned a bachelor’s degree in equine science from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, and her doctor of veterinary medicine from Iowa State University. She has a diverse background in equine practice, racetrack regulatory medicine and academia.
