Purina® Flock-Tober® Festivities Back by Popular Demand
Shoreview, Minn. [August 22, 2017] – It’s the little moments that make life big. Finding your first farm fresh egg. Entering your hen in a chicken pageant. Taking your kids to donate eggs to the local food pantry. These special memories are what Purina® Flock-Tober® is all about.
Back by popular demand, Purina® Flock-Tober® will once again celebrate farm fresh eggs in September and October. Celebrations will be held at local Purina® retail locations and through interactive online events.
“Last year, thousands of backyard chicken enthusiasts celebrated their flocks during Purina® Flock-Tober®,” says Kristin Horvath, backyard flock associate marketing manager with Purina Animal Nutrition. “From first egg happy dance videos to heartwarming chicken raising stories, each conversation made us smile. Tallied together, these little moments created something big. We are thrilled to bring back this excitement for our third consecutive year.”

Highlights of Purina® Flock-Tober® include:
- A switch to layer feed: Chickens should transition from starter-grower feed to layer feed at 18 weeks of age or when the first egg arrives. Flock raisers can choose between three complete layer feed options, including layer feeds with Purina’s exclusive Oyster Strong™ System for strong shells.
- Social media contests and fun: For a chance to win prize packages, including a year’s supply of poultry feed, flock enthusiasts can enter and vote in two nationwide contests on the Purina Poultry Facebook page. In September, fans can enter the Miss Flock-Tober® pageant through the categories of: Miss Helpful, Miss Congeniality, Miss Performance and Miss Fancy Feathers. In October, the focus will shift to eggs and a Flock-Tober® Farm Fresh Egg Face-off. Team Purina will also post updates from the backyard coops at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center and host a Thursday flock game night on the Purina Poultry Facebook page throughout the two-month event.
- Local celebrations: Many local retailers across the country will offer special in-store promotions and activities. Celebrations include a free limited edition coop sign with the purchase of Purina® poultry layer feed along with helpful tips for raising productive hens.
