Purina® WellSolve W/C® Horse Feed

Purina® Wellsolve W/C® manages caloric intake while satisfying the horse. If eliminating obesity were merely a matter of cutting calories, you could simply cut a horse’s rations in half and expect great results. But that’s not the case.

On the contrary, as any horse owner can tell you, watching a horse go hungry is heartbreaking. In addition, starving a horse can set off a chain of events that harm more than help, i.e., loss of muscle mass, nutrient defi ciencies, etc. But WellSolve W/C® horse feed offers sound strategies for eliminating unnecessary fat and calories from the diet while supporting health—and contentment.

      * These feeding recommendations are for horses eating 1 pound hay per 100 pounds of body weight per day in addition to WellSolve W/C® horse feed. This is the minimum amount of good quality hay to be fed. If feeding more hay, decrease amount of WellSolve W/C® horse feed fed by 1 pound per 2 pounds of additional hay fed. Do not feed less than 0.3 pounds of WellSolve W/C® horse feed per 100 pounds of body weight daily. Over feeding good quality hay or excessive availability to pasture may reduce the effectiveness of WellSolve W/C® horse feed to help control body weight.

** Once optimal body condition is obtained, performance horses in moderate and intense work may require a diet designed specifically for horses with higher caloric requirements such as Ultium® or Strategy® horse feeds.

*** Pregnant mares should not be on a weight loss program during the first and last 90 days of gestation. Lactating mares should be fed a diet designed specifically for horses with higher caloric requirements such as Strategy® horse feed.

      Best Results

      • Feed at regular times.
      • Divide total daily feeding into at least two servings with three to four daily servings preferred.
      • Do not feed over 6 pounds of WellSolve W/C® horse feed in one serving.
      • Be sure to weigh your feed using a scale. A small scale can be purchased in the fishing department of many sporting goods stores.
      • Do not feed free-choice.
      • Feed horse in a natural position from troughs placed at normal head height or lower.
      • Have salt and plenty of fresh, clean water available at all times.
      • Maintain an effective control program for internal parasites.
      • Be sure that horses are free of dental problems.
      • This product is not recommended for young growing horses under 2 years of age.

      Changing To

      • Start with the amounts given for the weight and class of the horse. After observing the horse for a period of time, the amount fed may be increased or decreased by 10 percent to obtain the desired body condition and weight.
      • It is not uncommon for horses to lose 90 to 100 pounds in the first 90 days of being fed WellSolve W/C® horse feed.
      • Once your horse has reached the desired body condition, you may need to feed slightly more to end the weight loss cycle.
      • Easy keepers can then be maintained on WellSolve W/C® horse feed to sustain this healthy body condition.
      • More specific recommendations may also be obtained from a Purina representative.
      • Any feed changes should be made gradually over a period of 7 to 10 days.
      • Mix the new feed with the old, gradually increasing the amount of the new feed while decreasing an equal amount of the old.
      • Changes in the rate of feeding should not exceed 1 pound per day for each horse.

      Caution

Always follow label directions. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area protected from rodents and insects. Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed to animals as it may cause illness, abortion or death.

Love it!

I’ve had my horses on this for a few months and I’ve gone through 4 bags now, and they have adjusted well and have not put on anymore weight. It’s a nice pelleted mix for chunky horses!
